ABOUT SAINT AUGUSTINE HORSE RESCUE

Turning Interest into Action

Here at Saint Augustine Horse Rescue, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2000, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Non-Profit Organization upon: support, empowerment and progress.

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Saint Augustine Horse Rescue emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words.

ABOUT ME

Carolyn Jordan

I have been riding my whole life and I have come to a point where I felt that I needed to pursue my abilities further. I've had so many ups and downs during my life, I'd like to think that my path is anything but a straight line and more like a mountain trail at this point! I feel a sense of connection to my rescued horses for this reason; our lives haven't turned out as planned, but they still have value! Often times, things don't happen as quickly as we would like and far too many people give up on the things they would truly love to do.

Growing up, I was into all sorts of activities, including art and Track. I studied the sciences in college and did my internship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's department of Cardiology. I continued my studies after college with a certification in Cardiovascular invasive medicine and completed my clinical rotations at Penn Presbyterian Medical center and Pennsylvania Hospital. Despite being pretty good in the medical department, I really hated what I was doing and there were hardly any jobs left by the time I graduated again.

I've been through all sorts of things; opportunities that turned into dead ends, bad relationships, and big mistakes. Eventually, I know things will turn around, but it wasn't meant to be easy for me. The choice to take on a project horse wasn't made over night; it took a lot of thought and reflection before I decided to give it a try. It's certainly not for everyone and the outcomes are never guaranteed! What I can say for sure is that it is worth effort, no matter what the result, because in the end the experience will make you a better person!
